Kennel Mats/Cushions (Description and Testing Results)
Our new kennel mats (which are available in any size) always look nice while providing
comfort for recovering patients, or boarders (including geriatric patients) housed
in your kennels and runs.

House keeping is simplified. If the patient soils the mat, cleanup and sterilization
is simple since the cover is vinyl. If your geriatric patients have incontinence
problems, the staff really appreciates the mats because they are so easy to clean
after the accident has been discovered. Simply wash it off and wipe it down with
sterilization solution.
Dogs love the cushions. It has been found that a dog in a run with both our mat
and a blanket or bed from home usually prefers to use our mat when resting. It’s
soft and it insulates them from the cool stainless steel or concrete underneath while
providing comfort. This feature is again most appreciated by arthritic geriatric
patients.
This same testing has found that dogs inclined to chewing rarely chew the kennel
mat. This statement is based on two testing programs.
In the first test program at a veterinary clinic, a kennel mat was intentionally
placed with boarding dogs that were know to chew nearly anything left in the run.
The test started in April 2008. It wasn’t until late December 2008 that a dog chewed
a hole in a corner of the mat. Clinic personnel indicated the 7 month old puppy
was probably the worst dog with anxiety in the practice.

The second test involved 20 kennel mats at a veterinary practice. These were also
delivered in April 2008. By November of 2008, the clinic reported that only one
mat had been “chewed”, and the staff easily repaired it by sewing it shut. Again
the dog was described as having high anxiety levels.
The mat consists of a 2 inch thick medium strength foam rubber core with a durable
reinforced vinyl cover. The cover is a tightly woven polyester cord mesh with a
flexible vinyl coating which is resistant to damage from chewing.
We would be willing to provide you with a piece of the cover material to test the
strength of the material. You will not be able to rip this material. We are also
willing to send you a kennel mat for your use in your runs or kennels for 30 days
with no obligation to buy. If it isn’t the most cost effective, nice appearing kennel
mat you’ve seen, you can simply return it. Finally, if you purchase it, we are willing
to guarantee it against damage by chewing*!!!

Transport Kennel Mat for Surgical and Wet Tables – Avoids Messy and Potentially Dangerous Transport of Surgical Patients
The newest transport product takes our two foot by four foot kennel mat that fits your wet table or surgical table and adds two handles on each side. These were intended as cushions for surgical tables or wet tables, however they can now be used as a transport device also. This allows for not only easy transporting of a patient following surgery, but also permits transporting dogs that have difficulty walking (older dogs or patients recovering from surgery or injuries). These mats also have all of the attributes of our kennel mats described on other pages of this website.
These mats are also useful when the induction area and the surgical suite are accessed through narrow halls and around corners with a very short turning radius. A regular stretcher may not make the turn, but the mat will bend in the middle and allow you to turn the corner.
An example of how these transport mats would be used following a surgical procedure is as follows. A staff member on each side of the table holds the handles, slides the patient off the table and carries the patient on the mat to the recovery kennel or run, thus avoiding the potential problems with hand carrying the patient in your arms, or transferring the patient from the surgical table onto a stretcher or other transport device. The carrying mat 1) reduces the chances for back injuries, 2) keeps the staff members a greater distance from the animal should it wake up and try to bite, and 3) avoids messy uniforms if the staff usually carries the patients (that may have blood on them) in their arms.
After the patient wakes up, the mat can be recovered and wiped down with sterilization solution, and it is ready for use again.
As with our other stretchers, the sides of the mats will be slightly above the patient when the patient is being carried. As such, the patient will not roll off of the mat during transport, as can occur with rigid stretchers.
The cost of the transport kennel cushions are as follows:
1) 48 inch long, 24 inch wide, and 2 inch thick - $116.00 each.
Discounts are available if more than one carrying mat is ordered
